Fashion Retailing in Spain


Since 2012, Universidad Villanueva in Madrid organizes intensive fashion courses for International graduate or undergraduate students.

The courses are 100% in English and designed to provide an in-depth overview of the Spanish fashion retail industry, together with an enriching cultural experience interacting with people from other countries and face to face contact with brand managers, company visits and Fashion retail areas. It provides the opportunity to gain an in-depth view of the diversity of the Spanish fashion retail industry and its different types of industry categories and companies to open up career perpsectives.

Visits to industry, fashion company headquarters and Fashion retail routes are scheduled, and you also have time to “live” Madrid, visit cultural monuments and museums. The city is well communicated for those who wish to visit tourist cities such as Barcelona or spend a weekend at the beach near the region of Valencia or Andalusia


There are three types of programs, both for undergraduate or graduate students:

Short Courses in Fashion & Retail Management

  • Dates: Spring or autumn
  • Program overview: These week-long courses offer applied lectures and workshops with Fashion brand owners and industry experts on focused areas of the industry: Spanish sector characteristics, digital strategy, visual merchandising cues, retail routes and cultural visits
  • Assesment: students work individually on a Final Task to pass the course.

Fashion Retailing in Spain Summer School (FRS)

  • Dates: two weeks end of June/July
  • Program overview: It is composed of master classes and applied sesiones with fashion brand experts and industry professionals, together with a variety of industry visits. The FRS program is focused on making students actively engage in the learning process through practical knowledged of Spanish Fashion characeristics, to open up career perspectiveslectures, workshops, industry headquarters visits as well as retail routes in Madrid.
  • Assesment: students work in groups on a Final Project

Topics to be covered in both courses cover a wide range of areas:

  • – Overview and analysis of the Spanish fashion industry.
  • – Success stories of Fashion Brands strategies and their internationalization.
  • – Innovate fashion companies and their digital transformation.
  • – Retail format trends.
  • – Customer shopping experience and visual merchandising knowledge.
  • – Entrepreneurship: the story of buiding a brand

Students profile 

Minimum 18 years old, younger students with passion for fashion are encouraged to apply.

Recommended level of English is B1-B2 to fully understand and follow the course.


A Certificate of Completion is issued and if necessary the credits of each program are credited so that they can be validated for credits at your home university.
